Bee Removal in Columbia, SC – Don’t Kill those Honeybees!

January 31

bee removalSwarm season is just around the corner.  Spotting a swarm of bees in your yard can be scary! The first response for most people: Freak out! The second response: Grab some bug spray or call an exterminator.  I’d like to offer another option: Stay calm and call for a bee removal.

Bee Removal in Columbia

If you’re in Columbia, SC or in the surrounding areas, we’ll come to your home and remove the bees for you.  Just use the contact form or call 803-400-2178 for a consultation. We’ll chat with you to see what we can do to help you. If your issue is one we can solve, we will schedule an appointment for a bee removal.

The swarm process really isn’t as scary as it looks.  When a honeybee colony swarms that’s an act of reproduction.  When the queen has decided that it is time to divide the colony, she sends a signal to the worker bees to raise a new queen.  The old queen leaves with half of the worker bee population to  find a new home.  On their way to their new home, they sometimes gather in a tree or on a fence.  This is the part that freaks most people out, but they are only pausing for a moment to send out some scouts who will go out and look for a new suitable home.

Despite what most people think, honeybees are the most docile during this time because they have no hive to defend.  They have no reason to attack – in fact, if they start attacking they could put the queen in danger and will lose every worker bee that stings.  They can’t afford to do that at a time when they need every bee to rebuild a new home.

In other words, a swarm won’t harm anyone if left alone – the bees are just house hunting.

So if you see a swarm, call us for and we’ll help them find a new loving home.

So glad I found your blog – going to bookmark it now. In the tree removal industry, beehives are a common sight. I’ll definitely keep this in mind next time I come across one that looks ominous!
